Developer Relations Engineer

MarketingAtlanta | New York | San Francisco | Remote
Algolia is the industry’s leading search-as-a-service provider with over 10,000 customers, including UnderArmour, Lacoste, The Times, and Coursera. Algolia powers over 100 billion searches in over  200 countries and 70 languages. We are passionate about helping developers & product teams connect their users with what matters most — in a matter of milliseconds.
The mission of Algolia’s community team is to support our community of developers, help them understand the value of search and our product, and support them along their search journey, from discovery to implementation to getting the most out of Algolia.
Algolia community team is seeking a DevRel engineer to grow and support our developer community. You will be at the forefront of serving and inspiring our community with tools, demos, code snippets, and content to improve the developers’ search journey and remove friction points on that journey.
Your role is to build the bridge between our product and our community by following your passion for technology and community building. We know that no two engineers and no two DevRels are alike: while you’ll have clear goals and guideposts, we want to hire people who can draw on their particular experience and expertise to accomplish those goals.

  • Produce high quality demos, tools, packages and tutorials to address common user needs, best practices, emerging stacks, technologies and trends
  • Write code to support how-to content or presentations (e.g., our Live Coding Sessions)
  • Empower our technical writers with ideas, code, and feedback
  • Be an authority on all aspects of the developer experience with Algolia: from the product journey and adoption, to the look and feel of the tech blog
  • Build and nurture relationships with internal engineering and education team, as well as community influencers and leaders
  • Work closely with product and growth teams to improve product onboarding, test and bring new features to the community
  • Be deeply plugged into the community: stay abreast of front-end frameworks, languages and stacks
  • (Note we don’t expect you to manage our social media or be active on communities like Discourse or Stack Overflow — unless you’d like to)

  • You are a developer with strong “right brain” tendencies: you like to educate and share with others as much as you like to code
  • You are proficient with front-end technologies (HTML, CSS, Javascript) and familiar with libraries like React, Vue, or Angular
  • You are both autonomous and collaborative: happy to tinker with code or a demo for hours, but ready to share, give feedback and help
  • You like to stay aware of the trends in the developer ecosystem, and you always have an eye out to discover new things
  • You stick to your deadlines and communicate backlogs and issues
  • You have a portfolio of demos and projects to share

  • GRIT - Problem-solving and perseverance capability in an ever-changing and growing environment
  • TRUST - Willingness to trust our co-workers and to take ownership
  • CANDOR - Ability to receive and give constructive feedback.
  • CARE - Genuine care about other team members, our clients and the decisions we make in the company.
  • HUMILITY- Aptitude for learning from others, putting ego aside.
