Technical Writer - DX Chapter

We're looking for a Technical Writer to join the Documentation team at Algolia. We're responsible for documenting Algolia products and creating the best developer experience for our users. The Algolia documentation is a large and growing content site. We have over 1,300 pages that document Algolia's concepts, raw APIs, open-source UI and indexing libraries, third-party integrations, tutorials, and guides. Algolia relies in significant part on engineers to write technical content. This won't change, but as we grow and diversify our software and client-base, we need more writers.
Here are a few recent projects you might have worked on if you were already part of the team:
* Create the documentation for Algolia AI
* Rewrite the documentation for Personalization and A/B Testing
* Write a new how-to guide on customizing word segmentation
* Create the internal documentation contribution process for Algolia employees
* Create the internal guidelines for writing excellent, engaging, and consistent documentation
You would be the documentation content owner, collaborating directly with the documentation engineers who maintain the site and build solutions to make content contributions more efficient. For example, we recently added automated content quality tools. We team up every week to improve content quality across the whole site. - You'd be the one leading efforts to scale the docs while maintaining quality, refine the voice and tone, and make sure we address developers' feedback.
You'd also work with product managers and engineers when there's a new feature to document.
Because we're not the sole contributors to the docs, a significant part of the job consists of reviewing contributions from other Algolians and making sure they're up to standards. We also have a backlog of new guides to write and existing ones to improve, which you'd own and prioritize.
We author the content in Markdown and YAML, version it with Git, and handle the review process in GitHub. We don't expect you to be an expert, but you need to be comfortable with it.

ABOUT YOU

  • We're looking for someone with excellent spoken and written English skills are required and a strong experience writing technical content or explaining technical concepts in documentation sites, blog posts, forums, emails, or other channels.
  • We don't expect you to be an engineer, but you need to be comfortable with complex technical topics and make them accessible to engineers of different levels. Algolia is a technical product. You'll need to explain search features in various fields such as natural language processing, machine learning and artificial intelligence, but also maintain guides for our open-source front-end and back-end clients.
  • You love taking complex concepts and translating them into a straightforward, engaging language without oversimplifying them. You're empathetic to different learning styles and experience levels and willing to find the sweet spot in catering to all of them.
  • You're willing to mentor junior technical writers and help them grow. We're building a team of writers. As the most senior person on the team, you'd help juniors ramp up and develop their skills by providing guidance and giving them constructive feedback.
