Founded in 2010, JadoPado is a global marketplace focused on the Middle East and South Asia. The platform is bringing a digital revolution to the Middle East by enabling sellers to set up globally available virtual stores and effectively expanding their traditional brick-and-mortar operations.

The JadoPado Story

Omar Kassim founded JadoPado in 2010 with a vision of bringing an Amazon-like shopping experience to the Middle East. Today, JadoPado is one of the fastest growing marketplaces in the region with 200,000+ SKUs and more than 5500 product categories. Omar attributes their success to a variety of factors, with one of the most important being attention to user experience, especially search. The team recognised the value of search in building a great e-commerce experience and has always seen it as a competitive advantage, instead of just a channel to connect users with products.

Search As a Differentiator

JadoPado wanted a search function that would display accurate results as quickly as possible. “I saw search as a competitive tool and a strategy to get a leg up on our competition,” explains Omar. JadoPado had begun working on an internal search project that he hoped would meet their needs, but building a custom search solution isn’t easy. Omar quickly realized that his internal tool was missing more than a few key components.

A 2 week implementation

Omar came across Algolia on Hacker News — another Algolia customer — and immediately saw the possibilities for JadoPado. “After seeing Algolia on Hacker News and looking at all the demos, I was absolutely blown away,” says Omar. “We decided to discontinue our internal project, and gave Algolia a shot right away.”

From testing to configuration and final implementation, Algolia was live on JadoPado in just two weeks, even though they only had one team member to devote to the project. They attribute this to Algolia not being resource intensive; not to mention that Algolia’s price points were reasonable for a startup, which allowed them to move forward without concerns of breaking the bank.

Search that just works

InstantSearch increased online search sessions by 96.82% YoY for JadoPado. “Customers should feel like search ‘just works’ and that it is a super easy way to get straight to whatever they may be looking for. Algolia has allowed us to accomplish that,” says Omar.

In May 2014, JadoPado released InstantSearch on both mobile and the web. The new, smooth and slick search led to considerably enhanced levels of user engagement. Compared to the same 30-day period in 2013, JadoPado saw an increase in site visits through search from 8.2% to 11.3%. Additionally:
Sessions with search jumped by 59.96%.
Unique searches jumped by 46.87%
Average search depth increased by 58.87%
InstantSearch continues to power search on JadoPado today.

InstantSearch on mobile

One of the main challenges developers face today is providing the same UX on mobile sites as on websites. As a main component of UX, search is no exception. However, for JadoPado, this was taken care of with the easy integration of InstantSearch on their mobile site which delivered strong results. Visits from search increased from 4.3% to 15% compared to the same 30-day period in 2013, and session exits decreased by 16.57%.

Additionally:
- Mobile sessions with search jumped by 233.92%
- Total unique mobile searches jumped by 268.37%
- Average search depth on mobile devices jumped by 41.05%

The integration of Algolia left Omar and his team with more room to concentrate on other aspects of growing the business, which is crucial for a start-up ramping up, like JadoPado were when they signed up with us. Algolia is proud to have been a part of JadoPado’s tremendous growth journey.
