After you trigger the first full reindex, the integration keeps your Algolia index in sync with BigCommerce. Most catalog changes sync automatically, but some require a full reindex.

Automatic updates

The integration updates your index when you:
  • Create, update, or delete a product
  • Add, update, or delete a product variant
  • Change a product’s stock level
  • Assign a product to or remove it from the connected channel
  • Create, update, or delete a category
  • Add or remove a product from a category
  • Update product or variant metafields that are configured for the source
For product, variant, and category updates, the integration rebuilds the affected product records from the BigCommerce API. This ensures that all attributes of the updated products reflect their current state in BigCommerce. Metafield updates change only the metafield attributes of the affected records.

When to trigger a full reindex

Trigger a full reindex after you:
  • Rename a brand. Products keep the previous brand_name until you update them or trigger a full reindex.
  • Rename or move a category with subcategories. Only products directly assigned to the changed category are updated. Products in its subcategories keep the previous category path.
  • Add or remove store currencies. Update the currencies in your source settings, then reindex.
  • Change source settings. Changes to custom fields, metafields, attributes to exclude, and currencies apply to existing records only after a reindex.
  • Clear a product attribute. Real-time updates can’t remove attributes such as upc, mpn, or gtin from existing records.

Monitor real-time updates

To check the status of individual updates, see Monitor BigCommerce indexing. If your index drifts out of sync with BigCommerce, trigger a full reindex to rebuild it from your catalog.
